The History of the UTA CPU Farm


In February of 1995 UTAMulti batch coordinating software was completed and the UTA CPU farm began a trial production run of D0 upgrade simulation. With this success I was asked to coordinate Monte Carlo production for the D0 experiment - and, with colleagues from FNAL, UMaryland, NIU, FSU, and LAFEX (Rio), I formed the D0 Monte Carlo Production Collective.

The UTA CPU Farm went into full production in May of 1995. Since then the farm has run constantly. We like to say there are no wasted CPU cycles on the UTA CPU Farm because the only time it is not running D0 data simulation is when there's a hardware problem that has shut it down.

Total : 60,000 full Geant events + 760,000 showerlibrary events + 17.500 plate level events


Bottom Quark Physics

Total : 121,000 full Geant events


New Phenomena Seaches

Total : 124,000 full Geant events + 572,000 showerlibrary events


W/Z Physics

Total : 34,000 full Geant events + 400,000 showerlibrary events
