The History of the UTA CPU Farm
In February of 1995 UTAMulti batch coordinating
software was completed and the UTA CPU farm began a trial production
run of D0 upgrade simulation. With this success I was asked to coordinate
Monte Carlo production for the D0 experiment - and, with colleagues from
FNAL, UMaryland, NIU, FSU, and LAFEX (Rio), I formed the D0 Monte
Carlo Production Collective.
The UTA CPU Farm went into full production
in May of 1995. Since then the farm has run constantly. We like to say
there are no wasted CPU cycles on the UTA CPU Farm because
the only time it is not running D0 data simulation is when there's a hardware
problem that has shut it down.

studies including studies of physics potential, detector design optimization,
trigger system studies, development of tracking algorithms, and the effects
of multiple interactions.
Top Quark Physics
- 2,000 events (full Geant) - Study of vector boson
background to top-quark production.
- 11,600 events (full Geant) - Development of electron
identification algorithms.
- 10,000 events (full Geant) - Top quark cross
section in the dilepton channel.
- 20,000 events (full Geant) - Study of effects
of multiple interactions and calorimeter noise on the Z-> mumu background
to the the dimuon top cross section.
- 20,000 events (full Geant) - Algorithm development
for distinguishing quark and gluon jets in top decays.
- 50,000 events (full Geant) - Search for
flavor changing neutral currents in top decays.
- 10,000 events (full Geant) - Study of b-jet tagging
using electrons from top - bottom electron decays for the top to all jets
analysis.
